    historical-nonfiction:

Welcome to Derinkuyu, an underground city that once housed up to 20,000 people. In the Cappadocia region, famous for its cave dwellings and underground villages, Derinkuyu stands out for sheer size and complexity. Locals began digging in the 500s BCE. The city consists of over 600 doors, each of which can be closed from the inside. Each floor could be closed off as well. And just to make attacking completely impossible, the entire city was deliberately built without any logic. Its maze-like layout makes navigating the city nightmarish for unfamiliar invaders.

A selection of Backgrounds from the Steven Universe episode: Coach Steven.

    Art Direction: Elle Michalka

    Design: Steven Sugar, Emily Walus

    Paint: Amanda Winterstein, Jasmin Lai

Coach Steven was such a fun episode to work on – one of my favorites from the season! I did the communication hub designs, Emily and I teamed up all the beach/gym shots, Jasmin and Amanda did a fantastic job (as always) with paint, all under Elle's wonderful art direction! Great work, you guys!!!

here some color blocks I did for the character Sugilite in the newest Steven Universe episode, Coach Steven!

sometimes before we lockdown a character, we’ll run through some different color options to see what’s best for the final character model

Sugilite was very fun to do!

Casual reminder that in one of Leonardo da Vinci’s many notebooks containing innumerable artistic and scientific sketches and notes of incomprehensible important, there is a sketch of two penises with legs and tails walking towards a crudely drawn anus.
The sketch was most likely done by Leonardo’s apprentice Salai, who was not only very likely one of Leonardo’s lovers, but who was also infamously mischievous. Better yet, the anus is literally labeled “Salai.”
So either Salai drew these while Leonardo wasn’t looking just to annoy his boyfriend, or Leonardo himself put actual time and energy into drawing these. Either way, the human race is truly blessed to have made such a discovery.
There are dick drawings like the ones you see on desks in school in Leonardo da Vinci’s notebooks. Please cherish this information.

In the midst of exploring Renaissance Italy history for reasons, I have found a wonder.

Cool news! If you bought the first Steven Universe comic (written by cool guy Jeremy Sorese, illustrated by cool guy Coleman Engle, published by Boom!) you may have seen a STEVEN CHEWNIVERSE page in the back, written and illustrated by me! This is my first foray into Comics with a capital C, but I should be doing more STEVEN CHEWNIVERSE recipes, so I hope you’re ready to make some tasty food with Steven!

Also, you should definitely try an Everything Bagel Dog! I have Sam & our pals Diego, Aaron K., Mike, and Aaron G. to thank for the recipe. Every year on the Friday after Thanksgiving they host Franksgiving, where they make creative/tasty/unusual/forbidden hot dogs. A highly recommended tradition.
